Ukraine’s largest foreign investors 2019: Cyprus and the Netherlands. State Statistics Service data

The State Statistics Service has published a list of the largest investing countries in the Ukrainian economy as of October 1, 2019. The data includes the share capital of foreign residents in the economy.

Investments in 2019

The total amount of foreign direct investment since the beginning of the year is $1.81 billion.

The key investors in Ukraine in 2019:

  1. Cyprus – $761 million;
  2. Netherlands – $438 million;
  3. Russian Federation – $220 million;
  4. Switzerland – $133 million;
  5. Germany – $89.9 million.

All investments over the years

In total, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has counted $34.7 billion of foreign investments in the Ukrainian economy. Of these, 78%, or $27.2 billion, is from the EU countries.

The key investors in Ukraine:

  1. Cyprus – $10.3 billion;
  2. Netherlands – $7.5 billion;
  3. Great Britain – $2 billion;
  4. Germany – $1.7 billion;
  5. Switzerland – $1.6 billion.

Top areas of economic activity in Ukraine for foreign investment:

  1. Industry – 32.9%.
  2. Wholesale and retail trade – 16.2%.
  3. Financial and insurance activities – 12.9%
  4. Real estate transactions – 12.9%
  5. Professional, scientific, and technical activities – 6.5%.

What about IT?

$22 million was invested toward the Information and Telecommunications area in 2019, and $2.2 billion, or 6.5% of total FDI, over the entire period.
