US sends 5,000 Starlink terminals to Ukraine

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) said that it had delivered 5,000 SpaceX Starlink terminals to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, Bloomberg reports.

  • The Starlink satellite terminals will enable unlimited, unthrottled data connectivity from anywhere in Ukraine, even if Russia severs all communication infrastructure connections. This is a backup communication channel.
  • Ukrainian engineers of Kyivstar, Vodafone, and Lifecell can provide services in most areas of Ukraine. Where this is a problem, Starlink is the answer.
  • Starlink in Ukraine was not planned to launch until 2023, but with the start of the war, Elon Musk responded to the request from the Ministry of Digital Transformation and launched the service. The first terminals arrived in Ukraine on March 1.
