Google suspends monetization of false content about the war in Ukraine

Due to the war in Ukraine, Google AdSense will stop monetizing content that exploits, dismisses, or condones the war in Ukraine, as the company informed in a letter to its users.

  • The company will cancel the monetization of materials that promote violence or deny the tragic events in Ukraine.
  • The restriction also applies to content claiming that the victims are responsible for their tragedy or similar instances of victim-blaming, such as claims that Ukraine is committing genocide or deliberately attacking its own citizens.
  • On February 26, YouTube stopped monetizing in Russia, but Google’s services continued to operate. The company also banned a channel from Russia’s Ministry of Defense and propagandist Vladimir Solovyov.
  • The media also reported on the possible closure of the Google office in Russian. Bloomberg sources informed that Google had 244 people based in its Moscow office and has assisted those interested in relocating.
