Gubbe, a Finnish elder care startup, raises €4M seed from Spintop Ventures and Tesi

Gubbe, an Espoo-based elder care startup, has raised a €4 million late-seed investment. The Swedish venture capital fund Spintop Ventures and the Finnish investment firm Tesi backed the round together with a family office and high-profile angel investors.

  • Founded in 2018 by Meri-Tuuli Laaksonen and Sandra Lounamaa, Gubbe develops a service that helps seniors perform daily chores and stay active by connecting them with young people. With a subscription, Gubbe matches an elderly person with a young person with whom they have something in common and arranges visits.
  • The company claims, that the young person gets a salary of about 10€ per hour of visit, working once a week. The meetings are not limited to helping with home errands, technology, or just talking, as the visits are informal.

“Gubbe’s mission resonated strongly with us. The increasing elderly loneliness is an universal problem, and this team is driven to make a change,”

Joni Karsikas from Tesi comments on the investment.
  • In April 2021, the startup closed its €1.7 million seed round from Nidoco. And in April 2020, Gubbe raised the first €300,000 in pre-seed funding.
  • With the fresh funding, Gubbe is ready to use the experience gained from the Swedish launch in larger European markets.
