Finnish gamified edtech Seppo raises €1.2M to accelerate its growth

Helsinki-based edtech startup Seppo has raised €1.2 million in funding from Almaral, Oppiva Invest, and Liquido Ventures. The company specializes on gamification of educational content, EdTechReview informs.

  • Founded in 2012 by Riku Alkio, Seppo offers a SaaS gamification platform, where any training or educational content can be turned into an interactive game. Teachers and companies from around fifty countries use the platform to design, build, and share educational map based games.

“It feels great to receive more resources for growth. We have already proven that there is demand for Seppo on the market, and now we can raise our operations to the next level in a systematic way. Thanks to our investors for the financial and human capital they have provided. We have been preparing for the new growth leap in a determined manner for a couple of years now,”

Riku Alkio, Founder and CEO of Seppo, comments the funding.
  • Almaral, a Finnish early-stage investor in biotech and life sciences startups across Europe, provided the funding for Seppo. Oppiva Invest, a Finnish firm that provides capital-based loan financing, and Liquido Ventures, specializing on Finnish early-stage high-tech startups, also participated in the round.
  • According to Crunchbase, Seppo raised a previous €300,000 venture round lead by Excedea Capital in 2017, and a €50,000 seed round in 2016.
  • The startup will use the fresh funds to double the promising growth in both Europe and Latin America.
