Finland’s Wolt launches Wolt Capital, a new financing service for merchants in the Nordics and Poland

The Helsinki-based delivery company Wolt has announced the launch of Wolt Capital, a new service promising an easy access to additional financing for merchants. The service is developed in partnership with the German fintech company finmid, with negotiations having started back in 2023.

About Wolt and finmid

  • Wolt is a company known primarily for its food delivery platform. Founded in Helsinki in 2014 by Miki Kuusi, Juhani Mykkänen, Elias Aalto, and Oskari Petas, Wolt operates an app-based platform that connects users with restaurants for food delivery and takeaway services. Users can browse menus, place orders, and track deliveries in real-time through the app.
  • In 2022 Wolt joined forces with DoorDash, which operates in 29 countries today, 25 of which are with the Wolt product and brand.
  • Founded in 2021, finmid is headquartered in Berlin. It is a financial infrastructure provider to B2B platforms. The company claims it enables any B2B software platform to offer financing to their customers at scale, driving revenue and customer retention. The finmid API also allows B2B software platforms to build financing solutions with best-in-class user experience.
  • The Berlin-based fintech company recently secured €35 million to expand and enhance its services across Europe. This funding was also aimed at supporting the scaleup of embedded financing services like Wolt Capital.

Wolt Capital

In 2023, Wolt partnered with finmid to introduce Wolt Capital as a financial service designed to address the issue of lack of financing for small merchants the company partnered with. Initially, the solution was launched in Finland, where it demonstrated its great potential. Later the solution scale to Denmark and Sweden.

After embedding the product into the Wolt interface, the service also launched in Poland, aiming to scale across more markets soon. This expansion ensured that Wolt can continue to support its merchant partners, helping them overcome financial barriers and achieve sustainable growth.

One of finmid’s key strengths is our ability to adapt to the diverse needs of platforms and merchants alike. We believe that all merchants should have easy access to financing through the tools they use daily. Partnering with Wolt enables us to provide this vital support to thousands of restaurants,

Max Schertel, co-founder of finmid, said.

Since the launch in Finland, over 80 NPS with hundreds of live merchants used Wolt Capital’s solution.
