Finland’s Resistomap secures €2M in funding for its biosecurity intelligence platform

Resistomap, a Helsinki-based biotech startup, has secured €2 million in seed funding led by Ananda Impact Venture and Gaingels, supported by Business Finland‘s grant. The round will help to advance their efforts in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

  • Founded in 2018 by microbiologist and data scientist Dr. Windi Muziasari, Resistomap commercializes antibiotic resistance monitoring in the environment. The platform will integrate early-warning systems, genetic insights, predictive models, and tailored recommendations to curb AMR spread.
  • Its database already contains over 10,000 environmental samples across 45 countries. The startup focuses on wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and expands into agri- and aquaculture industries, hospitals, long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical companies, food safety agencies, as well as public health authorities.
  • The round was co-led by:
    • Munich-based Ananda Impact Ventures, an impact venture capital fund with a pan-European investment remit, managing capital €200 million in four Core Impact Funds;
    • Gaingels, a US-based venture investment syndicate that supports the LGBTQIA+ community and allies in the venture capital space.

“This funding comes at just the right time as the spotlight is intensifying globally on biosecurity measures and initiatives like Wastewater-Based Epidemiology. With this backing, we can finally move forward with full speed to evolve our monitoring services into a biosecurity intelligence platform designed to address environmental antimicrobial resistance.”

the team of Resistomap commented the investment.
  • Resistomap will use the fresh round to expand its monitoring services into a biosecurity intelligence platform.
